The 1.6 TDCI has a timing belt. On the 1.6 TDCI the timing belt needs to be changed every 125.000 Miles or 10 Years. Ford changed the timing belt replacement interval a few times on the 1.6 TDCI so to be 100% sure about your car you can fill in your VIN number on the Ford Etis website and look at the service schedule information. Ford recommend disconnecting the oil return line, replacing it with a long tube, and then letting the engine idle for 60 seconds while collecting the oil in a container. You should get 0.3 litre or more of uninterrupted flow after running this test.

1.8tdci smoke on startup and rough idle. recently bought a 1.8tdci focus with 78000 miles, which is now having trouble after startup. My 1 6 TDCI focus have started smoking white clouds of smoke when car is warmed up. Check oil and coolant and is fine but seems to be loosing oil . I took engine case off today and noticed the plastic piping that attaches to turbo don't seem tightly fitted I took the pipe off and found inside is caked in oil and also all oil that have leaked
